$750K Grant Helps Fund New Simulation Lab

Thanks to a $750,000 grant from the State of Ohio and the generosity of the Summa Foundation, the new state-of-the-art Summa Virtual Care Simulation Lab opened September 2. Housed in the basement of the Corporate Services Center, the new lab includes:

  • Six unique clinical bays and debriefing spaces
  • Lecture space for 100 attendees
  • Audio/visual learning management system
  • Auditorium
  • Five individual classroom spaces
  • Computer lab
  • Bio-skills capability that allow staff to practice performing procedures
  • Cafe and food service available

In addition, Summa Health is proud to annouce the creation of the first associate degree program in the U.S. for simulation technologists right here in Akron. This collaborative effort between Summa and the University of Akron has produced the first and only simulation technology instructional lab in the country. This space included a lecture hall that has technical instruction stations for 24 students and their simulators, plus an observation deck for mock simulation set-up and testing.

The new Summa Virtual Care Simulation Lab hosted a Grand Opening Celebration September 2, from 1 - 6 p.m., at the Corporate Services Center, 1077 Gorge Blvd., Akron.  Physicians, staff and employees, along with local and state officials attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony, took a tour of the new facility and enjoyed refreshments during the event.
